or in The Washington Post.

I love eagles.  We saw several in YNP and we have spotted them at Mason Neck once in awhile.

One of my favorite scriptures is about the eagle:

NRSV  Isaiah 40:25

To whom then will you compare me, or who ismy equal? says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? He who brings out their host and numbers them, calling them all by name; because he is great in strength, mighty in power, not one is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. 30 Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; 31 but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Two other scriptures speak of the glory of the eagle:

NRSV Psalm 103:1

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all t

hat is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless t

he LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits– 3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5 who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. 6 The LORD works vindication and justice for all who are oppressed.

NRSV Job 39:25

When the trumpet sounds, it says ‘Aha!’ From a distance it smells the battle, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting. 26 “Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars, and spreads its wings toward the south? 27 Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up and makes its nest on high? 28 It lives on the rock and makes its home in the fastness of the rocky crag. 29 From there it spies the prey; its eyes see it from far away.

The writers of our scriptures sai

d that we can be like eagles; and God cares for us as God watches over the eagles.  What a beautiful word picture.  Praise be to God.

And praise be to God to those who watch over and care for the eagles.  http://www.wildlifecenter.org/

We photographed this eagle at Grizzly and Wolf Park in West Yellowstone – she was in rehab.
